Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza
255 Highland Park Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, US
Built in 1998-99 on land donated by the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber, it opened as the Northeastern Pennsylvania Civic Arena, then First Union Arena, then Wachovia Arena, before Mohegan Sun casino bought naming rights in 2010. It's the home rink of the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, but it pulls a steady stream of touring concerts for the region too, capacity runs about 8,300 for hockey and up to 10,000 for concerts. Security tightened up in 2018 with metal detectors added; bag policy allows clear bags up to 12"x12"x6" or a one-gallon Ziploc-style bag, but no backpacks, diaper bags, briefcases, or rolling bags. Parking is general and fee-based (included in the ticket for Penguins games), with reserved parking purchasable in advance for most concerts through the box office.
