PPG Paints Arena
1001 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, US
Opened in 2010 as Consol Energy Center, replacing the old Civic (Mellon) Arena, this is downtown Pittsburgh's home for Penguins hockey. PPG Industries took over naming rights in 2016. It's not primarily a music venue, but it's a heavy-rotation concert stop; it actually won "Best New Major Concert Venue" at the Pollstar Awards the year it opened and regularly hosts major touring artists. Capacity flexes with the show: up to 19,758 for center-stage/in-the-round concerts, about 14,536 for standard end-stage setups, and around 18,187 for Penguins games. Bag policy is strict only small wallets/wristlets (4"x6"x1") and medical/diaper bags, no exceptions, and there's no bag check on site, so leave anything bigger in the car. Parking's available in the arena's own garage on Centre Avenue plus surrounding downtown lots, typically opening a couple hours before the show. Given the scale, budget extra time for security and getting to your seat, this is an arena-show experience, not a club night.
