Starland Ballroom

570 Jernee Mill Rd, Sayreville, US

This one's had quite a few lives before becoming a music venue. Three brothers opened it as the Jernee Mill Inn a banquet hall and tavern back in 1962, and it ran through a string of names (Willy's, then Hunka Bunka Ballroom) before rebranding as Starland Ballroom in 2003, by which point it had already been doubling as a concert space since the late '70s to fill gaps between weddings and parties. Hurricane Sandy forced a 10-month closure and remodel in 2012-2013, and it reopened under AEG/Bowery Presents ownership, which still runs it today. It's a mid-size general admission room that leans hard into rock, metal, punk, and emo a real staple for that scene in the NY/NJ corridor. Bags are allowed but should be small; nothing checked at coat check, so travel light and expect a search at the door. Parking is on-site for $6, or $18 for "Starparking" which gets you closer to the door and line privileges; street parking in the surrounding industrial area is free if you don't mind a short walk. Cash works at the box office and there's an ATM inside, but purchases in the venue itself are mostly cashless.

Check in from the venue to earn a verified stamp, or log a past visit as a memory.
