The NorVa

317 Monticello Avenue, Norfolk, US

A former 1922 movie theater turned into one of Hampton Roads' premier general-admission music halls in 2000 (James Brown christened the reopened room), The NorVa still has that old-theater bones under the concert-club energy high ceilings, a wraparound second-floor balcony, and a sound system touring acts actually request. Capacity runs about 1,500, and it's standing-room throughout except for limited first-come balcony seating. No backpacks, camelbaks, or bags larger than a small purse, everything gets searched at the door, so travel light. Parking's easiest at the MacArthur Center garage a couple blocks away, and metered street spots go free after 6pm on weeknights/Saturdays and all day Sunday; the Tide light rail also stops right at Monticello. Bars are mostly cashless, so bring a card. Doors are usually an hour before showtime, all ages unless posted otherwise, and it's a proper AEG/Bowery Presents room expect a solid national touring lineup on any given week rather than a niche local scene.
