The Orange Peel

101 Biltmore Ave has had a wild past life: Skateland Rollerdome in the '50s, then a bowling alley, a cabaret club, and a Black-owned nightclub called The Orange Peel that ran through the '70s before sitting vacant for decades. The current incarnation opened in 2002 and quickly built a reputation as one of the best mid-size rooms in the country Rolling Stones and Playboy have both named it a top club, and the roster of who's played here (Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, The Smashing Pumpkins, Warren Haynes doing an annual New Year's run) backs it up. It's a real dance floor, standing-room-only room with a handful of first-come stools around the edges and paid reserved seating along the walls for some shows. Bags need to be small no backpacks or large bags, and everything gets searched. No dedicated lot, so you're working street parking (free after 6pm) or a downtown garage. Mostly 18+ unless a show's marked all ages, and it's cash-and-card at the bar with an ATM on site if you need cash for merch. There's a coat check downstairs in colder months, and a separate basement bourbon bar called PULP if you want a quieter drink before the show.
