The Pavilion at Montage Mountain

1000 Montage Mountain Road, Scranton, US

This outdoor amphitheater sits right on the grounds of the Montage Mountain ski resort, which is basically how it came to exist. The resort started hosting concerts in the early '90s to make money during the summer off-season, starting with a Chubby Checker show on a temporary stage in 1992. It grew fast enough that a permanent amphitheater opened in 2000, and it's cycled through sponsor names since (Coors Light, Ford, Toyota) before settling as The Pavilion. Now it's a legit stop on the summer shed circuit and home to the jam-band world's Peach Festival and Camp Bisco. Capacity runs big for a "club" venue but it's really two tiers: about 7,500 under the covered pavilion/reserved seating and another 10,000 or so on the open lawn, for roughly 17,500-18,000 total. Bags are limited to small clutches/fanny packs (6"x9") or clear bags up to 12"x12"x6". Parking is included with your ticket and spread across on-site lots that typically open around 3pm on show day, no camping or overnight parking allowed. Worth knowing if you're making a day of it: the same resort property also runs a full waterpark right next to the venue, with a wave pool, lazy river, and slides like the Tundra Tornado so summer showgoers sometimes turn it into a swim-then-show trip. Given the venue's size, this is very much a "bring a blanket, get there early for a lawn spot" kind of show rather than an intimate room.
